Motorcyle Accident Pictures, Pepsi 500...

As most of you are aware, Derek was in a motorcycle accident on October 7th on his way to work. Another driver cut over the the quadruple yellow line out of the carpool lane. Because traffic was going slower in the regular lanes of traffic, he stopped suddenly in front of Derek causing Derek to have to have to stop quickly. Derek "lowsided" his bike as he was taught to do in his safety course and it probably saved his life. He laid his bike down and tumbled down the freeway, slamming into the tire of the vehicle that caused the accident. Here are some pictures that a witness took of the accident. Sorry they are not better quality, but they are scanned from the pictures he sent us in the mail. You might want to enlarge these, and well, turn your head all sorts of directions to see them :)

Derek sustained major injury to his left knee. He tore all ligaments except one and broke part of his fibula where it connects to whatever tendon it connects too. He is scheduled to have surgery Thursday the 29th of October. It will be about a 4 hour surgery and has a full recovery time of 6 months to a year.

The bike has been totaled out by the insurance company due to a cracked engine and bent frame. Neither Derek or I are big Nascar fans but we scored some tickets to sit in the Toyota Suite at the Pepsi 500. It was nice, catered food, free drink, die hard fans all around. Kelsey Grammer was there along with a few other celebs. Derek and I left about 50 laps before the race did so we could avoid traffic. So yeah, you can tell we aren't big fans, but it was fun nonetheless.Derek usually makes his special pancakes in the morning, so today he enlisted the help of a little chef and his "Grabnabber" aka "The Gopher" from those As Seen on TV ad's.
Alli's first homework assignment. To do a book report. She chose "Ladybug Girl" and for the picture she drew Ladybug Girl jumping over a pond in the backyard.
