Auschwitz Death Camp

DAY 1 - Poland

We started our day off with a superb polish style breakfast - cold polish style sausage with honey and cranberries (quite good). We began our journey with a trip to KL Auschwitz I - the original camp located in the town of Owsiecim (pronounced by the Germans as Auschwitz). The camp was originally a Polish Army base but was converted after the Germans took control. The first inhabitants were surprisingly not Jews but German criminals, Russian POWs, and Polish Political Prisoners. Each of the 20 main brick buildings housed at its peak 1,000 souls. Interesting fact - German criminals were made building leaders (thus afforded more privileges) instead of all other types of prisoners because the administration believed all others were sub-human.

Below are the pictures of our trip to KL Auschwitz I and II Concentration Camps in Poland. I can't even begin to explain to you the feelings you experience while being there. It's just so overwhelming and unbelievably sad. It's hard to believe that this could ever happen and not so long ago. Here's a link to the website as well. Museum Aushwitz-Birkenau

Entrance to Auschwitz. It says "Work brings freedom".
